Today, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court announced new congressional districts for the Commonwealth as a result of the reapportionment process following the decennial census. Pennsylvania’s 12th district includes all of the City of Pittsburgh, the Mon Valley, and parts of Westmoreland County.

“I’m proud to announce that I’m running to represent the City of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania’s new 12th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives,” Dickinson said. “Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District is my home—it is where my wife Emily and I live, it is where we are raising our family, and it deserves to be represented by someone who has a real stake in its future and lives in this community.

“I’m running because of what I have seen in my life and the challenges I know we still need to solve. I grew up in foster care and saw my siblings and friends struggle with poverty, addiction, mental health, and trauma. Today, I am a constitutional law professor at the University of Pittsburgh, a proud husband and father of two.

“I have dedicated my life to making our community a safer, better and more equitable place—taking on pro bono cases for tenants facing eviction, advocating for police reform and fighting for those who our system looks beyond. I am running for Congress because I have seen first hand what happens when the system fails you, and I know what is at stake for families in our community.  I will go to Washington and deliver results, not get caught up in winning personality or political contests that don’t help Pittsburgh families.

“The City of Pittsburgh needs a representative in Congress who will fight for universal health care, an end to gun violence, clean air, clean water, and funding to fix our crumbling roads and bridges.I believe I’m the right person for the job.”

Jerry Dickinson is a constitutional law professor at the University of Pittsburgh and a Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District. Dickinson was previously running in Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional District, currently held by incumbent Democrat Mike Doyle. who announced in October that he plans to retire.
